Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock.
Newspapers recently told of a Missouri couple who built their 5,300-square-foot home in a gated community in Florida. The three-story house had five bedrooms, three floors, beautiful verandas, and it was bordered with palm trees. The only problem: The contractor built the house on the wrong lot. Who knows how it will turn out.
In building your life, make sure to construct it on the right lot. Build your life on the Lord Jesus Christ and on the foundation of obedience to His Word. The Bible is a firm foundation for our faith, and Jesus is a cornerstone that will never collapse. When we hear His sayings and do them, we are likewise people being built up into a holy temple for His glory (see Ephesians 2:21).
While we don’t want to think of the Bible as simply a list of dos and don’ts, we do respect it as the foundation and authority for life itself. By revering, reading, and obeying it, we can keep ourselves from … lots of problems.
If God entirely inspired Scripture, then Scripture is vested with His authority. No other power could either bestow or take away that quality.
